Our Impact

Let’s take steps towards sustainable fashion, together

Over decades, fast fashion has strained our planet. The pursuit of disposable styling has accelerated the negative effects of mass production, and the happiness of getting new clothes has been burdened with concerns over nature and society.

70% of what fashion produces is barely used, discarded or destroyed in a vicious cycle that’s responsible for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. At Ghana's Kamanto market, around 15 million items of used clothing from Western countries arrive every week. The entire population of Ghana is only 30 million.

When we first conceived KOLLECTIN as the new shopping platform for fashion, one of our key goals is what actions can we take for our business model to make fashion more sustainable for future generations.

Our Actions

Zero Waste

Changing a complex fashion industry can take generations. Therefore, the quickest and most effective way for us to take steps towards sustainability is to limit excess and overproduction.

More than a third of what fashion produces ends up in landfills as a direct result of overproduction. Our belief is if we can convince you to eventually buy before the start of the season (our unique presale model), from brands with quality products so you buy less to last longer, not only will you save money by not paying markups to cushion overproduction, but you’ll be doing good for our planet as well.

Minimal packaging

We pack our products in recyclable, reusable paper boxes, and we leave out unnecessary packaging materials except tissue paper only to keep the products safe and clean.

Ethical manufacturing

We only work with brands and manufacturers practicing ethical manufacturing, where workers are treated well and fairly in healthy, equal environments.

Supporting women micro-entrepreneurs

We believe the future of retail lies in the hands of individuals. By supporting and inspiring first time women micro-entrepreneurs, we look to redistributing the power of fashion back to local communities, while giving small businesses a platform to create relatable and relevant products.
